Today Jayla introduces us to James Corbett, the Senior Vice President of Community Health and Values Integration at Centura Health. In his position, James is responsible for Centura’s Global Health, Community Health and Research Operations. James, Jayla and Murf discuss that the medical world is learning that social needs turn into medical needs. Under James’s direction, Centura is reaching out into the community and addressing issues such as education, job training and transportation. Jayla’s Area Agency on Aging recently received a grant partnering with Centura. It may be one of the 1st programs to include partners from a community group, a hospital and a state agency.

Returning to visit us this week is Dr. John Douglas, Executive Director of Tri County Health which serves about 1.5 million Coloradoans. Dr. John addresses the #1 growing health care issue; mental health. Although we are the 2nd fittest state, did you know that Colorado is # 7 in suicides? Depression and anxiety affects an estimated 10-15% of our population. Substance abuse is the fastest growing concern. Dr. John tells us more about the Opioid issue and the variety of prevention approaches that Tri County Health is working on for our community.
