Murphy and guest Jennifer Reeves from DRCOG welcome Dr. Mohammad Mahoor, an Associate Professor of computer engineering and computer science at Denver University. Dr. Mahoor is the founder and director of the machine learning and social robotics lab at DU. Murf calls Mohammad, Dr. Star Wars and for good reason. He has developed an artificial intelligent robot, named Ryan. What does Ryan do? He is a socially intelligent therapeutic robot designed to relate to lonely, isolated people with dementia/Alzheimer’s disease, and depression. How does this work? Ryan is a conversationalist; he recognizes emotions and feelings and can empathize with his friends. He remembers conversations and even has a sense of humor. Ryan can also be customized for every patient to remind people to take their pills, etc. Ryan was also developed to assist children with Autism. Don’t miss this fascinating discussion that will blow your mind!
Andrés Guerrero, the manager of the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program at the Colorado State Health Department, returns to give us more information about Opioids in Colorado. As a state, Colorado is somewhere in the middle of preventing Opioid addiction. Andrés notes that at least the number of deaths is levelling off, but there is a lot more work to do. Much of that is the education of doctors and the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. Andrés also explains how we can recognize people that are overdosing on Opioids and what we should do about it. Thanks for giving us so much valuable information to this very significant problem.
